Question: What Vintage Fad or Trend Do You Hope Comes Back? 3

We want to hear your opinion…

Fads and trends come and go, and some pop up again. Over the years, there have been many fads in fashion, home decor, toys, collectibles – you name it!

  • Bright red lipstick was a huge trend in the 1920s, along with flapper dresses and dance marathons.
  • Betty Boop and goldfish swallowing (UGH! Frat-guys version of sushi?) were popular fads in the 1930s.
  • In the 1940s you could find ‘Kilroy Was Here’ practically everywhere, and the bikini made its style debut.
  • Hood ornaments were all the rage in the 1950s, and Bermuda shorts and Hula Hoops became popular. Telephone booth stuffing (just how many friends can fit into a telephone booth?) was also a trend in the 50s.
  • Silly Putty, Smiley Faces, Ant Farms, and Rickie Tickie Stickie Flowers were fads from the 1960s, and the miniskirt and bell-bottom pants were style trends.
  • Earth shoes were hot in the early 1970s, and so were Pet Rocks (I loved my Pet Rock!), Jumping Beans, and Mood Rings. Disco and polyester was the trend, and by the late 70s, the hippie look was gone.
  • Big hair was definitely the trend in the 1980s, and everyone seemed to have a Boom Box and was break dancing. Waterbeds reached fad status in the 80s, and the fashion trend included Zubas pants, spandex mini-skirts, Doc Martens shoes, parachute pants, and shoulder padded blazers.
  • And we can’t forget the Beanie Babies, boy bands, and stirrup pants of the 1990s.

Think back to all the fads and trends you’ve seen in your life. I’m sure there were some that you liked and some that you thought were ridiculous, right?!

    Fun subject ThirdShift!

Bell bottoms! I loved my hip hugger bell bottoms! Can’t wear the hip hugger anymore but I sure would wear the bell bottoms.

These fads sure brought back some memories! I remember the rubik’s cube, shooting marbles, playing jacks, tie dye outfits, doing the Twist, playing board games, ponchos, wearing a sweater around my neck, hot pants, upturned collars on shirts, etc. Some things are best left in the past, but so many would bring a smile to see again. Thanks for sharing these glimpses into the past!

fortunately, we had the famous classic K-Way rain jacket that covered the “horrible” roll neck sweater!:)
