Question: What Do You Collect? 4

We want to hear your opinion…

Did you have a collection as a kid? Maybe you collected postage stamps or postcards. Or maybe you liked agates and other rocks. Baseball cards and other trading cards and stickers were fun items to collect – remember Wacky Packs?

The hobby of collecting items has been around probably as long as mankind – when the first primitive human gathered two rocks (or maybe sticks) and kept them, collecting was born! In order to collect things, we first need to seek them out – and the finding and acquiring (hunting and gathering) of our favorites is part of the fun! It’s also relaxing and enjoyable to organize and display our collections.

Some people like to collect things based on a theme, or a color, or a purpose, or even an era. Other people collect things just because they are unique and like the look of a cabinet of curiosities (that’s me). There are no rules to creating a collection – whatever appeals to you is fair game!

Many people who started collecting when they were kids, continue collecting as adults. Other people don’t start collecting until they are adults – when things such as antiques, vintage ephemera, Ironstone, Pyrex, Depression Glass, or figurines are popular favorites. Whether you are new to collecting, or have been collecting your entire life, we’re curious to know what you collect!

We want to know… What do you collect? What makes these items special to you?

As a child I collected matchbooks. I know that sounds odd but back in the day they were everywhere and so colorful and interesting. Every vacation or trip to try a new restaurant rewarded my habit. I so wish I had saved them!

I used to have an old fishbowl filled with matchbooks I collected – I know what you mean about them being interesting! You sure don’t see them around much these days.

For many years I collected LP Vinyls… but i’m about to sell them as soon as possible. I will make a fixed donation depending of the amount collected, and dedicated to a non-profit charitable Cancer fund…
