100 Years of Halloween Costumes 4

Halloween will be here before you know it! Now is the time to start thinking about what your costume is going to be!

The idea of wearing costumes on Halloween has been around for a long time, possibly starting in 1585 or earlier. There are many references throughout history of people wearing costumes for Halloween – including the Celtic festival of Samhain. You can read more about this in The History of Halloween article on the History Channel.

Over the past 100 years, Halloween costumes have changed quite a bit. They started out as ghosts and ghouls and other scary creatures, then movie characters and characters from favorite radio and television shows became popular. The costumes of today are very creative and include all of these kinds of costumes, and more!

Of course, children have always loved wearing Halloween costumes, but adults like to get in on the fun, too. Whether you are planning on attending a Halloween party with friends, or taking your kids out to Trick-or-Treat, it’s fun to dress in costume! What will your costume be this year?

Halloween Costume Ideas

Will you be the girl next door or a witch?
A ghost or a ghoul?
A Franken-bride or a zombie?
Maybe a black cat or a sports figure?
How about a movie or TV series character?
Maybe this year you’ll dress as a politician?
Or how about a hippy or a rebel?
Maybe a voodoo doll or a vampire?
A couple of silent movie film stars perhaps?
How about a marionette doll or a paper doll?
A 1920s Flapper or a fortune teller?
A Greek goddess or Mary Poppins?
A mad scientist or an astronaut?
A unicorn or a mermaid?
Maybe a rock singer or a cowboy?
A Freudian Slip or the Life of the Party?
A jelly fish or a bubble bath?
A super hero or a villain?
How about a funny clown or scary clown (is there a difference)?
Or maybe something completely different…

Did You Know?

Did you know that Americans spent roughly $1.2 billion on adult Halloween costumes in 2015? That’s a lot of cash for a one-time use costume!

Want to save money this year on your costume? Buy vintage! Thrift stores and yard sales are a great source for finding just the right item for your Halloween costume. You never know, maybe you’ll find a classic (authentic) 1950s Poodle Skirt and a pair of black and white saddle shoes to match!

The video was fascinating! They nailed the eras, didn’t they?

You’ve got some cool costumes in your store. That’s something I rarely run across. But your whole store is full of cool things I rarely see. 😀
